Rex Hotel

During the French time, the Rex began as a two-story garage located in the heart of commercial center of Saigon. Between 1959 and April 1975, Mr. and Mrs. Ung Thi, a Vietnamese couple purchased and renovated it into a six-story building with 100 guestrooms and renamed it as Rex Trading Center and then the US Information services rented much of the premises for office and residential use. The remaining space housed three cinemas, a cafeteria, a dance hall and a library.
Since May 1975, South Vietnam was completely liberated, the Rex Trading Center became a property of Saigontourist Ho Chi Minh City and was upgraded into an international hotel, renamed Ben Thanh. The management adopted the Rex Hotel as its trade mark and a crown as its official logo from 1986.

Between February 1991 and August 1998 in response to the demand of tourism, Sunflower Hotel and a property at 146 Pasteur Street were renovated and incorporated into the Rex compound adding 115 guestrooms and the Rex Royal Court Restaurant. In 1995 the Rex Hotel was classified as an international 4-star hotel by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Since September 20, 1998 the improvement phase continued with creating a grand lobby in the east wing and a large lobby in the west wing with a total of 1,000m2 linking it to a much desirable Rose Garden. With a total of 230 guestrooms, a wide range of high quality services of international standards and the charm of traditional ambience, the Rex is really "Your home in Vietnam, an ideal venue in the historic center of Saigon". For further development, a 3,000m2 project has been licensed by the city authority in accordance with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism's guideline to build more facilities and upgrade the Rex into a five-star hotel in the early years of 21st century
